Nissan has always made safety its top priority, and your new Nissan is equipped with an advanced set of driver assistance features. These systems use cameras, sonar, and radar to identify potential accident situations and warn you so you can take action. Some of these features will actively assist you if necessary to prevent a collision. Let’s take a closer look at how these Nissan safety features work.
Automatic Emergency Braking /w Pedestrian Detection
This system is always active and uses radar and a forward-facing camera to scan the area ahead of you for vehicles, pedestrians, or animals. If something is detected, it calculates the speed and distance of the object and compares it to your speed. If you’re rapidly closing on the object, the system provides audio and visual warnings so you can intervene and prevent an accident.
If you can’t respond fast enough to brake and prevent a collision, the system will apply hard braking to bring your Nissan to an almost instant stop. This can prevent a collision or reduce the damage from one if it is impossible to prevent.
Blind Spot Warning
This feature uses sonar installed on the sides and rear of your Nissan. The sonar continually monitors all blind spots and instantly warns you with a loud chime if a vehicle enters a blind spot.
Lane Departure Warning
This system uses a camera to identify the lane markings, and once identified, it will warn you if you move toward the lines and your direction indicator isn’t active. A chime will sound to warn you to turn back toward the center of your lane.
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
When you shift into reverse, sensors in the rear bumper monitor the area to the right and left. If they detect a vehicle moving behind you, you’ll hear a warning noise, and an icon will appear on your screen so you can brake and prevent a collision.
Rear Automatic Braking
This system works with the cross-traffic alert above. If a vehicle has been detected behind you and you don’t immediately brake, the brakes will be automatically applied to prevent an accident.
High Beam Assist
Sensors are installed in your headlights to watch for oncoming headlights or the taillights of a vehicle in front of you at night. If lights are identified, the system automatically switches your high beams to low beams. The beams revert to high beams once no lights are detected in front of you.
These six systems are installed in every Nissan and comprise the Nissan Safety Shield 360. You will also have additional standard or available safety systems, depending on your model. If you’d like to know more about these systems, contact us today at Ken Ganley Nissan Medina in Medina, OH.
